My name is Catherine AKA Katie deMeulles. I was born and raised in Churchill, Manitoba. I have been a part of my community of Churchill for 60-plus years. I'm a proud Red River Metis woman and have been an active member of the Churchill Metis Local for many years. I have learned the Art of crafting with my mother for many years. I have created some original art from painting on feathers, beading to jewellery making and after the passing of my Mother in 2018. Ive starting to reviving more of my mothers original Art of Myrtles Caribou Hair Sculptures. I walk in the footprints of my Mother Myrtle deMeulles and her legacy and all the things she did for her Art, Culture and her community. I feel the need in my soul, spirit to continue her work. I am also part of a group of Indigenous Knowledge Keepers for our community. We come together and help Indigenous and non-indigenous people Learn our culture. Understand our history and art and share with all who reach out for the Knowledge we have learned or experienced and embrace all. My goal is to be able to live with one another with understanding and love of all nations on this road of Reconciliation and Healing. I acknowledge that we are on lands traditionally used by our Ancestors The Cree, Dene, Inuit, and homeland of the Red River Métis peoples. Churchill sits on Treaty 5 territory. I mention this to respect the Treaties that were made and be thankful for the contributions our Indigenous Ancestors have made to build this, province and nation. I dedicate myself to moving forward in a spirit of collaboration and reconciliation.
